Project summary

This was the first project in my Electromechanical Systems class. We were tasked with making a hub/spool that attaches to the shaft of a 12 V DC motor and supports a radial load from a weighted bucket while spinning. A simple 3D print job would’ve done the trick, but it made sense both due to strength concerns and bettering my own skills to try to fabricate the hub out of metal. It was my first time using the lathe, and it involved turning, drilling, and parting. It was also my first time tapping a hole, which was necessary to install the set screw that securely fastens the hub to the shaft. The final result surpassed even my most optimistic expectations and, as far as I know, supported the most weight out of anyone’s hub in the class.
