Project summary
This project was the final project in my engineering design I class. We were tasked with making an assistive device that would help a specific person with Cerebral Palsy bake cake, specifically addressing the part of the process that involves mixing the batter and transferring it from the bowl to the pan. We saw over zoom that the person had only one functional wrist, but the wrist struggled with adduction/abduction and radial/ulnar deviation. Thus, we decided to make the device usable primarily with wrist flexion/extension. We also made a beefier handle to since the person had difficulty picking up small objects.
I worked on this project through the entire engineering design cycle – from initial conception to final fabrication and presentation of results. This project was unique in that we were able to curate a product for a specific person and with their disabilities in mind, which is often neglected within the utilitarian norm of product design.
